DESCRIPTION & HOUSE PLAN

The friendly little village of Desná is situated in the western part of the Giant Mountains and eastern part of the Iron Mountains. The distance from the Dutch border is approximately 850 km. There is a garden of approximately 1,000 m² on the southeastern side of the house. Because of the extensive size of the garden, throughout the day you will find both sunny and shady spots. Garden furniture is available. There is sufficient space for parking as well.

This apartment can accommodate up to 14 persons. On the ground floor there is a spacious, completely renovated (2005) kitchen/living room furnished according to Western standards and provided with, among other things, 4 electric hotplates, two fridges and a microwave. The dining room is large enough to seat 14 people. The grand living room has plenty of easy chairs and seats. There is also a TV, DVD player and Playstation 1 at your disposal. There are 2 roomy bathrooms, one of which was completely renovated in 2005 (the other was partly renovated the same year). One bathroom has a toilet, the other a bathtub. There is also a separate toilet in the accommodation. There is an additional storage / playroom. Upstairs on the first floor you'll find two very large bedrooms furnished with single beds; a bedroom furnished with a double bed, and two smaller bedrooms each with two single beds. All mattresses and covers are for 1 person. The house is heated by a hot water boiler. Additionally, there is a spacious recreation room with one single bed.

SURROUNDINGS & ACTIVITIES

There are countless opportunities to enjoy a relaxing and/or active holiday in this region: hiking, cycling, horseback riding, mountain climbing and water sports on the numerous rivers and reservoirs in the area. The regional capital, Liberec, lies at the foot of the dominant mountain of Ještěd. This mountain has a unique modern TV tower which houses a restaurant at the top. Liberec owes its fame partly to its magnificent botanical garden which contains an extended collection of Rhododendrons; partly to the zoo with its precious white tigers (bred on-site); and partly to its one-of-a-kind Babylon Aqua Park. Jablonec nad Nisou is chiefly known for its traditional glass and bijouterie (jewelry/trinket) production, also exhibited in the Glass Museum. In the vicinity there are a string of natural observation points which offer breathtaking views of the mountain ridges both on the Czech and Polish sides of the Jizera / Giant Mountains. In Josefův Důl there is a big lake which, along with the town and local glass manufacturing factory, bears the same name. It is a popular recreational center for sports and hiking year round. Protržená přehrada, a dam located on the White Desná River, is one of the most bizarre spots in the region. The dam burst in 1916 and flooded the entire town. The remnants of the disaster can still be seen here. Smržovka is a more than 1-km-long, modern competition run for bobsledding. Another special tourist attraction is the cog railway which follows the 7-km-long passage between Tanvald and Harrachov, with bridges built hundreds of meters above the ground - take a nostalgic ride on an historic locomotive! You will find ideas for additional activities located in a folder in the apartment.
